Sheikh Hamad is one of the most influential players in the Arab media world.
After working in several positions in Qatar’s Ministry of Information and Culture in the late 1980s and early 1990s, the young, new leaders of the country decided to abolish this ministry and think globally.
Sheikh Hamad was tasked with founding the project that eventually produced Al Jazeera in November 1996. He was appointed Chairman of the Board of Al Jazeera Satellite Channel that year.
Ten years later, in the prelude to the launch of Al Jazeera English in 2006, the company renamed itself to be Al Jazeera Media Network.
Today, his purview encompasses all of the channels under the Al Jazeera umbrella, in addition to the leadership of the Qatar Media Corporation.

Prior to his current position, Souag had held various positions within the network, including Managing Director of Al Jazeera News Channel (Arabic), Director of News of Al Jazeera News Channel (Arabic), Advisor to His Excellency Sheikh Hamad bin Thamer Al-Thani and Chairman of the Board for Al Jazeera Media Network. He also served as Director of Al Jazeera Centre for Studies and chief of the network’s London bureau. Before joining Al Jazeera Media Network, he worked at the BBC World Service as well as MBC.
Souag has a PhD in literary studies, and was a professor of literary theory at the University of Algiers until 1993, when he pivoted to journalism and media.

Al Khalil holds a PhD in political science with a specialization in political geography, and a master’s degree in political science with a focus on constitutional law. He completed his undergraduate studies with a bachelor’s degree in public law, specializing in international relations, and earned a diploma in public legal studies from the University of Nouakchott.
Al Khalil’s journalistic career began in Mauritania in 1989 and continued in Qatar from 1997. Initially, he worked as a journalist and later assumed the role of Head of the Political Section at Al-Sharq. He then joined Al Jazeera Media Network as part of the team responsible for establishing its website in mid-May 2000. Over the years, he progressed within the network, serving as Managing Editor in June 2001, then as Deputy Editor-in-Chief, and eventually as Editor-in-Chief in early June 2010. In January 2018, he was appointed Director of Al Jazeera Centre for Studies.
Besides his extensive journalistic background, Al Khalil boasts academic, training and consultancy experience in the fields of journalism and political science. His expertise encompasses online journalism, editorial work, and the establishment and management of media institutions. Additionally, he offers training and consultancy services in international relations and political geography, particularly on the Arab world and West Africa. He has conducted numerous courses at Al Jazeera Media Institute since its inception.
General Secretary of the Palestinian National Initiative (PNI)
A Palestinian physician, writer, and political activist, Barghouti is an advocate of popular resistance and has contributed to the establishment of several civil society institutions. He held various positions, including Minister of Information in the National Unity Government in 2007. He founded and has managed the Health, Development Information and Policy Institute since 1989. He was also a member of the Palestinian delegation at the Madrid Peace Conference in 1991. In 1992, he established a programme to employ Palestinian deportees from Kuwait and the Gulf and accommodate the unemployed in Palestinian institutions. Additionally, he played a role in the establishment of the National Committee for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled.
Elected as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, Barghouti emerged as the runner-up in the 2005 presidential elections. His dedication to peace earned him a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010.

Khanfar is also the former Director General of Al Jazeera Media Network, and board member of the International Crisis Group and the Board of Directors of the International Editors Network.
Recognised by Foreign Policy as one of the top 100 global thinkers in 2011, Khanfar is renowned for his innovative approaches to institutional management. Beginning his career with Al Jazeera News Channel in 1997, he reported from various countries and conflict zones, including South Africa, Afghanistan and Iraq. Moving to Doha in 2003, he assumed the role of channel director, overseeing its transformation into a global media network.
Khanfar has authored numerous published studies and articles, along with two books: Ar-Rabi’ al-Awwal: Qira’ah Siyasiyah wa Istratiyjiyah fi as-Sirah al-Nabawiyyah (Arabic: The First Spring: A Political and Strategic Reading of the Prophet’s Biography) and Fi Diyafat an-Nabi (Arabic: In the Prophet’s Hospitality).

Al-Anani is also an economic and political advisor. He has served as a Minister in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan of Industry, Trade and Supply; Labour; Tourism; Prime Ministry Affairs; Information; and Foreign Affairs. Additionally, he served twice as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and as the head of the Economic Ministerial Team. He also held the position of Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court.
Al Anani has published dozens of research papers and authored five books. He earned a PhD in economics from the University of Georgia in the United States. He has lectured at numerous universities in Jordan, the Arab world and globally, and has taught at several Jordanian, Arab and American universities.
Director of the European Centre for Palestine Studies at the University of Exeter
Pappe is a historian and professor at the College of Social Sciences and International Studies at the University of Exeter and the deputy director of the Exeter Centre for Ethno-Political Studies. He obtained his PhD from the University of Oxford in 1984 and taught at the University of Haifa until 2006, when he was forced to leave due to his political activism.
His research interests focus on Palestinian studies, and he has authored around twenty books, including The Biggest Prison on Earth: A History of the Occupied Territories, Ten Myths About Israel, The Ethnic Cleansing of Palestine, The Modern Middle East, and A History of Modern Palestine: One Land, Two Peoples.

Mustafa is also the Director of the Graduate Students Support Programme, Mada al-Carmel, the Arab Center for Applied Social Research in Haifa. He holds a PhD from the University of Haifa’s School of Political Sciences, as well as a master’s degree in political science and history and bachelor’s degree in political science and Middle East history from the same university.
Mustafa served as a visiting researcher at the Centre of Islamic Studies at the University of Cambridge, and at the Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies in Doha. He specialises in Palestinian politics, Israeli politics, democracy, political systems and political Islam in the Arab world. He has published articles, studies and books on these issues in numerous academic journals in Arabic, English and Hebrew.

In addition to his position at the Zaitouna Centre for Studies, Saleh has been a scientific advisor to the Faculty of Arts and Humanities Council at the University of Tripoli, Lebanon, since 2019. Previously, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM). He was awarded the Bait al-Maqdis Award for Young Muslim Scholars in 1997 and the Excellence in Teaching Award by IIUM in 2002.
Saleh has authored 16 books on the Palestinian cause, edited over 105 volumes and books, contributed 21 chapters in academic books, and served as the scientific editor for some of the most prominent sources of Palestinian information and studies, such as The Palestinian Strategic Report (12 volumes, 2005-2021), The Palestine Documents (7 volumes, 2005-2011), and The Palestine Daily Chronicle (9 volumes, 2014-2022).
Moreover, Saleh has participated in dozens of local and international conferences and is a frequent contributor, especially on Palestinian affairs, to prominent newspapers and news websites. He has engaged in hundreds of television, radio, and press interviews.

Abdu has served as a project and investment coordinator for the World Bank and other internationally funded projects addressing the financial sector and the humanitarian crisis in the Palestinian territories. He is also founder and co-founder of many other initiatives and organisations.
He holds an MBA in finance from the University of Jordan as well as an MReS and a PhD in law and finance from Manchester Metropolitan University. He has lectured in various fields such as corporate governance, financial management, financial markets and business law at a number of Middle Eastern universities.
Abdu’s research interests include human rights issues, refugees, migration, international aid to developing countries, and economic cooperation between the European Union and the Middle East and North Africa region.
Professor of Political Science at Kuwait University
Al Shayji holds a PhD in political science from the University of Texas at Austin. He served as counsellor and head of the Kuwaiti Information and Media Bureau at the Kuwaiti Embassy in Lebanon from 2001 to 2004. He was also a member of the advisory board of the committee tasked with drafting a comprehensive national security strategy at the Kuwaiti Government’s Bureau of National Security from 2008 to 2009. Additionally, Al Shayji led the American Studies Unit at Kuwait University from 2007 to 2009 and later served as a special advisor to the Speaker of the Kuwaiti Parliament, the Foreign Relations Committee, the committee investigating the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, and the committee for Kuwaiti prisoners of war and hostages in Iraq (1992–1996). He is an expert in US political affairs, GCC security, and political development, and has published extensively in these domains.

Barari holds a PhD in international relations from the University of Durham. He later served as a Senior Fellow at the United States Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C., and taught at the University of Nebraska at Omaha and Yale University. Barari has published numerous books in both English and Arabic, as well as over 50 peer-reviewed research papers in the field of Middle East international relations.
Shinqiti is also a researcher specialising in Islamic thought, religious reform, and the history of sects in Muslim societies. He also served as a professor of political ethics at the Research Center for Islamic Legislation and Ethics at Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Faculty of Islamic Studies. Shinqiti holds a PhD in the history of religion from Texas Tech University, where his dissertation focused on the Crusades’ impact on Sunni-Shi’a relations. His books and articles have been translated and republished in various languages, including Turkish, Albanian, Bosnian, and Persian. He is a regular contributor to Al Jazeera Channel and Al Jazeera Net, where he has published hundreds of articles in both Arabic and English.

Abdel Fattah is Vice President of the Centre for Islamic Thought and Contemporary Studies, and has managed several research centres, including the Centre for Political Research & Studies at Cairo University and the Centre for Good Governance and Public Policies at Qatar Foundation. Uysal is a professor of international relations and political sociologist with a keen interest in studying Arab affairs, Arab-Turkish relations and cultural diplomacy. He earned his master’s and doctoral degrees from Southern Illinois University. In 2010, he resided in Egypt as a research fellow at the American University in Cairo (AUC). One of his prominent publications is a book entitled, Devrim Öncesi ve Sonrasında Mısır’da Türkiye İmajı (Turkey’s Image in Egypt before and after the Revolution) (2016). He has edited several books on Arab affairs and Turkish-Arab relations, with the latest being Arab-Turkish Relations: Political and Diplomatic Milestones of 1200 Years (2023). Moreover, Uysal has coordinated several Arab-Turkish Congresses of Social Sciences (ATCOSS) since 2010 and is committed to fostering academic cooperation between Turkey and the Arab world.

Diabat earned his PhD in international relations in 2007 from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich. He worked at the Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies at the University of Bonn from 2008 to 2010. In 2010, he joined Yarmouk University in Jordan where he lectured until 2021, also serving as Head of the Political Science Department more than once. Since August 2021, he has taught at the Department of International Affairs at Qatar University.
Diabat’s research primarily focuses on international relations, alliances and Chinese foreign policy. He is the author of two books: Al-Mawqif as-Sini min al-Azma al-Rusiya al-Ukraniya: Bayn ash-Sharaka al-Istiratijiya wal-Braghmatiya as-Siyasiya (Arabic: The Chinese Position on the Russo-Ukrainian Crisis: Between Strategic Partnership and Political Pragmatism), and Al-Muwazana al-Hajina fi Mintaqat al-Hindu Basifik: “Okos” Muqabil “al-Hizam wat-Tariq (Hybrid Balancing in the Indo-Pacific Region: The Quad versus the Belt and Road). Additionally, he has published approximately 30 scientific research papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Al Jazeera Correspondent and Bureau Chief in Gaza
Dahdouh studied journalism at the Islamic University of Gaza and earned a master’s degree in regional studies from Al-Quds University at Abu Dis. He began his career as a correspondent for various media outlets before joining Al Jazeera’s team in the Gaza Strip in 2004. He extensively covered the Israeli wars on the Strip for Al Jazeera in 2008-2009, 2012, 2014, 2022 and 2023. Additionally, he produced episodes for several programmes on Al Jazeera, including documentaries about the tunnels in Gaza and resistance operations during the 2014 war.
Coming from a family of activists, many of whom sacrificed their lives for their homeland, Dahdouh experienced immense loss during the current war on Gaza. Fourteen members of his family, including his son, daughter, wife and other relatives, were martyred as a result of an Israeli airstrike on a shelter they sought refuge in in Nusseirat refugee camp. Despite this profound tragedy, he remained committed to reporting on the war’s daily events and the crimes committed by the Israeli occupation. Dahdouh has received numerous Arab and international awards, including the Julio Anguita Parrado International Award for Journalism in Conflict Zones by the University of Córdoba and the Union of Andalusian Journalists.

Khan served as the Secretary General of Amnesty International from 2001 to 2009, marking a historic milestone as the organisation’s first female leader. During her tenure, she spearheaded the inaugural global campaign aimed at halting violence against women and girls. Deek’s work has included policy, civil, political, commercial, criminal defence and sanctions and compliance law for private clients, international companies, charitable organisations, and sitting and former government officials. Since 7 October 2023, he has been covering the genocide war in Gaza, with his images appearing in newspapers, websites, social media platforms and global support rallies for Gaza. Despite being injured and his home being bombed three times during the recent conflict due to his journalistic efforts, he remains undeterred in his mission to report on atrocities and convey the truth..

Armed with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media, Abu Omar first made waves as an activist on the digital frontier, utilising the power of the internet and social media to amplify his voice. Before finding his home at Al Jazeera, he honed his skills as a producer and photographer with well-known channels and agencies.
In 2008, Abu Omar found himself at the local radio station, Sawt al-Aqsa, initially as an editor in the bustling newsroom. As his passion for storytelling grew, he transitioned seamlessly into the role of correspondent, becoming the voice of Khan Yunis governorate on the airwaves.
Abu Omar’s journalistic journey has been marked by a dedication to truth and a commitment to shedding light on critical events. Dennis is an academic and political activist, and a member of the Stop the War Coalition and the Peace & Justice Project established by Jeremy Corbyn. He holds a master’s degree in Middle Eastern Studies from SOAS University and advises Declassified UK, which investigates the activities of the British Ministry of Defence and intelligence agencies. He has spoken and performed at platforms ranging from the Oxford Union to the Royal Albert Hall and Glastonbury, and also contributes articles to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

Falk is also a Visiting Distinguished Professor in Global and International Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. In 2001, he served on a three person Human Rights Inquiry Commission for the Palestine Territories that was appointed by the United Nations, and previously, on the Independent International Commission on Kosovo. He is the author or co-author of numerous books, including Religion and Humane Global Governance; Human Rights Horizons; On Humane Governance: Toward a New Global Politics; Explorations at the Edge of Time; Revolutionaries and Functionaries; The Promise of World Order; Indefensible Weapons; Human Rights and State Sovereignty; A Study of Future Worlds; This Endangered Planet; and Crimes of War. He serves as Chair of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s Board of Directors and as honourary vice president of the American Society of International Law. Falk also acted as counsel to Ethiopia and Liberia in the Southwest Africa Case before the International Court of Justice. He received his BS from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania; LLB. from Yale Law School; and JSD. from Harvard University.
