Youth Platform’s Finalists

Two groups of youth have been selected to present their initiatives at the 8th Al Jazeera Forum which will be held in Doha May 26 – 28, 2014. The Youth Platform’s selection committee has announced that “Youth Proximity to Movements for Change in Arab Countries” and “Direction of Youth Change Movements Three Years After the Arab Spring,” will be presented during a youth-run component of the Forum.

The first initiative was submitted by Alhusayn Alsagheer Mahmoud, Abdulrahman Uthman Mohammed Marar, Mohamed Ali Alrihani and Fatima Altumi from Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia, respectively. The second initiative was submitted by Mohamed Aknu, Altawfeeq Bouqa’ada, Almustafa Balkhayr and Shereen Mazin Tahir Ibrahim from Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and Jordan, respectively.

The winners were selected by a committee at the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies based on objective criteria, particularly the degree to which the initiative is related to youth issues and to the forum’s general theme, “Change in the Arab World: Where To?”

Given the large number of submissions, the committee has also decided to extend invitations to individuals who submitted outstanding proposals but were not selected among the winners. An additional committee will be created to allow these individuals to present their ideas during the forum’s sub-events.

The Youth Platform, launched by the Al Jazeera Centre for Studies as a landmark component of the 8th Al Jazeera Forum, aims to give youth from all backgrounds a unique opportunity to engage in in-depth discussions about the Arab world’s current transition and implications for the future.
