The prime minister of the Syrian interim government
He is the prime minister of the Syrian interim government; he officially started to work intellectually and politically since 1992. In 2001, he joined the Revival of Civil Society committees in Syria, and co-founded the political forums, which were formed in Syria in that period of time. He is known in the political milieu of the Syrian opposition as a representative of the Democratic Islamic trend, and accused by some militants of being a liberal islamist. In 2005, he was one of the founders of Damascus Declaration, and became a secretary of the National Council of the Damascus Declaration two years later. He was jailed for two years and a half, and stripped of his political and civil rights with his fellows; the declaration activists. He took part in the Syrian revolution and was arrested several times, and became a member of the Syrian national council. He left Syria and was elected president of the council of civil peace in the governorate of Deir Ez-zor and consultant to the executive office of the governorate council. In September 2013, he was appointed as a president to the Syrian government in the General Assembly meeting of the coalition held in Istanbul.
