Programme Coordinator at Institute for War and Peace Reporting

Razan Ghazzawi is currently the programme coordinator and researcher for the Syria programme in Turkey at the Institute for War and Peace Reporting. She was a grassroots activist for social change against the Syrian regime and was detained and imprisoned twice in Damascus. She was working with the Syrian Center for Media and Freedom of Expression before Syrian Air Force Intelligence raided the office and detained all staff on 16 February 2012. Two of her colleagues, Hani Zaitani and blogger Hussein Ghrer are still imprisoned, along with the director of the Center, Mazen Darwish. Ms Ghazzawi also worked with human rights lawyer and advocate, Razan Zeitounah, at the Violation Documentation Center. Razan was kidnapped with Samira Khalil, Nazem Hammadah and her husband Wael Hmadda in Douma’s suburbs of Damascus, an area controlled by Zahran Alloush on 9 December 2013.
