AlJazeera Centre for Studies ended the first day of the 8th AlJazeera Forum by officially launching its new Media Studies unit during a gala dinner at the St. Regis in Doha. Dr. Salah Eddin Elzein, the Centre’s Director, and Dr. Mohamed Zayani, an Associate Professor of Critical Theory at the Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar, preceded the dinner with remarks on the importance of such a research unit, not only for the Centre and for AlJazeera Media Network, but also for the Arab world at large.
Al Jazeera’s 8th Annual Forum will be held as Arab revolutions face formidable obstacles in their many paths to surviving the transitional phase and moving forward to build stable, free, democratic and just political systems. These sweeping changes are not confined to what has become known as the Arab spring countries, they have also impacted a number of other countries in the eastern and western parts of the Arab world and resulted in political and constitutional reforms with varying degrees of significance.
Two groups of youth have been selected to present their initiatives at the 8th Al Jazeera Forum which will be held in Doha May 26 – 28, 2014. The Youth Platform’s selection committee has announced that “Youth Proximity to Movements for Change in Arab Countries” and “Direction of Youth Change Movements Three Years After the Arab Spring,” will be presented during a youth-run component of the Forum.
