The Syrian revolution has been facing its most dire political and field challenge for the past three years in an increasingly complex regional and international context. The opposition has not yet achieved the necessary balance, whether between its political and military components or between its parties inside and outside the country. Also, the support it receives from its regional and international allies currently does not seem sufficient to change the equation on the ground or in the international decision-making corridors. The regime, however, is preparing to hold simulated elections amid an explosive security and military situation in all the Syrian governorates and a number of cities and towns that have been completely demolished. Accordingly, the forum has designated this session for the discussion of the challenges posed to the Syrian revolution and the prospective developments that may bring it out of the state of maneuvering on the front and in the political scene.
