Chair of the Political Committee of the Palestinian Legislative Council
Dr Abdullah Abdullah is the chair of the Political Committee of the Palestinian Legislative Council. He previously held the positions of Fatah’s deputy commissioner for international relations; the Palestine Liberation Organisation’s representative in Lebanon (with the rank of minister); and Palestinian ambassador to Lebanon. In August 2009 he was elected to Fatah’s Revolutionary Council. He was also a member of Fatah’s National Revolutionary Council, and, in January 2006, was elected chair of PLO’s Political Bureau. Abdullah previously served as deputy foreign minister of Palestine (October 2003 to December 2005), Palestinian ambassador to Greece (April 1990 to October 2003), and president of the Palestinian delegation and director of the PLO’s offices in Canada (April 1972 to April 1990). He was also the director of Fatah’s foreign affairs bureau in Beirut. Abdullah is also a member of the executive council of the Parliamentarians’ Network in 2008, and an activist against conflict and human security with the East-West Institute in Brussels. He was also vice president of the Middle East Institute for Studies. Dr Abdullah holds a PhD in international relations, an MA in psychology from Carlton University in Canada, and a BA in philosophy from the University of Damascus.
