Nobel Prize for Peace Laurate
Tawakkul Karman is the general coordinator of the Revolution’s Youth Council. She is the founder of Women Journalists Without Chains (WJWC). Ms Karman was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011 for her work. She is a member of the UN High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons, advising on the global development framework beyond 2015. She is a member of the advisory council of Transparency International and a member of the Yemeni Journalist Syndicate. The Foreign Policy magazine chose her as number 1 in its chart of top 100 global thinkers for 2011, and she was first among the Time Magazine’s “16 of History’s Most Rebellious Women”. She was also nominated, with seven other women, as a world changer by Reporters Without Borders. She received an honorary doctorate in International Law from the University of Alberta in Canada in 2012. She was selected as the honorary advisor for the Tunisian Minister of Human Rights and Transitional Justice in May 2012.
