Lead economist in the Chief Economist Office of the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa region
Dr Elena Ianchovichina has been the lead economist in the Chief Economist Office of the World Bank’s Middle East and North Africa region since January 2010. During this period she was the principal author of a series of high-profile regional economic reports and on many occasions served as the region’s acting chief economist. Prior to that she was senior economist (2005-10) and economist (2001-05) in the World Bank’s economic policy and debt department, where she initiated and managed the programme on inclusive growth, young professional at the World Bank's research department and East Asia and Pacific region (2000-01), and assistant professor at Kansas State University (1999-2000). An author of more than 50 publications, Dr Ianchovichina’s research has been published in top development economics journals and has been cited in leading newspapers. In 2008 she received Purdue University’s Apex Award for outstanding contributions to quantitative economic analysis. Dr Ianchovichina has a PhD from Purdue University.
