UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process and Representative to the PLO
Mr Nikolay Mladenov joined the United Nations in 2013 and served as the UN Special Representative for Iraq until March 2015, after a distinguished public service career in Bulgaria. He was Minister of Foreign Affairs (2009-2013) and Minister of Defence (2009-2010). In 2001 he was elected Member of the Bulgarian Parliament and later between 2007 and 2009 served as a Member of the European Parliament. Mr Mladenov holds a Master of Arts in War Studies from King’s College London, and degrees in International Relations from the University of National and World Economy of Sofia, Bulgaria.
