For the latter part of session nine on day 2 of the 9th Al Jazeera Forum, Al Jazeera's Public Liberties and Human Rights Department is hosting a seminar entitled "The UN Plan for the Safety and Security of Journalists: Opportunities and Challenges." This session seeks to answer the following questions:
- Is there sufficient awareness, among journalists and media organisations of the UN plan for the safety and security of journalists? Have these been involved in the development and implementation of the plan at the international and local levels?
- What are the opportunities and challenges for the success of the UN plan to protect journalists?
- What is the level of national commitment to the implementation of the plan?
- What are the practical results achieved so far?
- Is there an effective and concrete partnership between specialised organisations, the UN agencies and media organisations for the protection of journalists and freedom of the press? Do they cooperate in ending impunity for those who perpetrate crimes against journalists?
