He received a PhD from Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia in 1981. Zala practiced journalism before becoming a lecturer of philosophical studies at the same university and then the Chair of the Political Science and European Studies Department at Constantine the Philosopher University’s Faculty of Philosophy. He also got involved in politics as he became a member of the Slovak parliament in 1990; and served as the president of the Social Democratic Party, the chair of the Defence and Security Committee of the Slovak parliament and a member of the supreme legislative body. Zala’s interests are media and philosophical social issues. He has participated in or co-authored a number of media projects at Slovak Television (STV) and Slovak Radio (SRo).
