He was a lecturer of Islamic History at the Birbeck College of the University of London. He writes regularly in The Middle East Eye and Al-Quds Al-Arabi. His research interests include Egypt, Iraq, Islamist movements and reform. He wrote, edited and contributed chapters in several books in Arabic and English about the history of Arab nationalism, the Palestinian issue, modern Islamist movements and the history of Islamic thought.
