He taught at Georgetown University and the Harvard Kennedy School, and worked at the IMF, the World Bank and the UN. His research focuses on the political economy of policy reform and the dynamics of youth inclusion in the Arab world. He has published articles and chapters, and co-edited volumes and reports including: After the Spring: Economic Transition in the Arab World and Young Generation Awakening: Economics, Society, and Policy on the Eve of the Arab Spring.
