Intellectual and journalist specialised in the affairs of the Arab and Islamic world
He graduated from the Faculty of Law at Cairo University and joined the research section of Al-Ahram where he worked for about twenty years and became deputy chief editor. In the mid-1970s, he joined the Kuwaiti monthly, Al-Arabi, and became its managing editor. He writes for a number of Arab newspapers in Egypt, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Jordan and Kuwait. Howeidy has also authored several books including The Quran and the Sultan, Inside Iran, and Islam and Democracy.
