General Coordinator for the Higher Negotiations Committee representing the Syrian opposition

A former prime minister, he began his political career in 1989 when he assumed several posts in the Syrian government. He had also assumed several positions in the Baath party before his defection. Sixteen months after the breakout of the Syrian revolution, Hijab defected from the regime and joined the ranks of the opposition. In December 2015, he was elected General Coordinator for the Higher Committee for the Syrian Revolution.
