He was the Director of the International Stability Operations Association, a non-profit organisation focused on private sector support for operations in conflict and post-conflict environments. He was also the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Journal of International Peace Operations. Messner also has experience in the fields of corporate antitrust law and educational non-profits. His academic work includes research abroad in Costa Rica, India, Mexico and Timor-Leste as well as a study abroad at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia.
